Colombia’s economy moves out of recession

During the final quarter of 2009 the Colombian economy grew by2% and thereby bringing it out of the recession which began as the world felt the aftershocks of the banking crisis in the USA according to the latest figures despite continuing troubles with Venezuela and the export of goods to that country.

The growth has been attributed to the an increase in domestic demand as well as strong foreign investments in Colombia. At the same time consumer confidence has also grown and reached levels not far off those found prior to the crisis engulfed the world. The challenge now as with most countries is to sustain the recovery which at the moment could be easily affected by either internal problems or further problems being uncovered in other countries.

In Barranquilla, particularly in the North there is a lot of optimism as new projects continue to inject more money into the local economy. Apart from the new apartments in Barranquilla that are being built there are numerous new businesses and shopping centers in Barranquilla which have been opened creating jobs.
