About Barranquilla
Barranquilla is possibly the most easy going city in Colombia epitomising the laid back Caribbean culture. Here they know how to enjoy life and are host to one of the biggest annual street festivals, the Baranquilla Carnaval, an annual celebration which is second only to the world famous Carnaval in Rio, Brazil.
With its hot and sticky climate it is understandable that the pace of life is less energetic than in Bogota, however, this should not over shadow the fact that Barranquilla after generations of relying on farming is now at its heart an industrial city with the largest sea port on Colombia’s Atlantic coast and is home to the first airport in South America and Colombia’s most popular beer “Aguila” (which may well be connected to the area’s relaxed approach to life!)
