Weather in Barranquilla
Located near the Equator on the Caribbean coast of Colombia the Barranquilla climate is tropical, as a result in Barranquilla weather conditions are typically hot and humid throughout the year with an average daytime temperature of 33° C (91° F) – and at nighttime the temperature does not fall below 22° C (70° C) very often. The affect of the heat is amplified by the humidity which is between 75% and 90%.
The dry season falls in January, February and March which are usually rain-free which is fortunate as this is when the Barranquilla Carnival is celebrated!
The rainy season starts towards the end of May and finishes in October. During this time (with the exception of July which can be a little drier) you should expect to see showers most days with them becoming more intense towards the end of August and during September and into October before getting drier again in November. Barranquilla does not have hurricanes as found further north across the Caribbean At this time sudden Tropical Storms can bring impressive thunderstorms and dump a huge amount of water on the city in a short amount of time making it dangerous to travel in some areas as the Barranquilla arroyos (rivers) form in the streets. There have also been a couple of tornadoes recorded during the summer but these are exceedingly rare.
After the heat of rainy season the weather becomes cooler in December when the winds tend to pick up and make it a little fresher – at night a jacket may be required if sat in a breezy location. The winds continue until the end of February.
